Dear Beth,
I am looking forward to participating in this class – Writing for the Professions – this semester, and anticipate picking up many new skills and characters that I can carry with me in the future. For instance, I believe that the skills of conciseness and professional writing and presentation can be developed further and aid with future job searches and employment opportunities. It is my hope that it will lead me to become a more successful student and future career person.
One aspect that I’m particularly interested in learning about is the various job search materials and other aspects of writing that will be useful for one day obtaining a valuable position within a public relations firm or agency. My goal is to work within this setting, creating press releases, developing social media content, coordinating corporate events and managing public relations campaigns. As a public relations professional, writing is one of important aspects of one’s career. One is expected to write professionally and eloquently so that the image of the company is well represented.
The aspect of the class that I think will be the most challenging would simply be the workload. While there is not a specific subject that I am anxious about, I find myself getting nervous about the amount of work that will need to be accomplished by the end of the semester. Ultimately, however, I know that I am up to the challenge. I thrive under deadlines and have found that I am not a procrastinator. This has worked to my advantage many times. A strategy that I can utilize for this class would be to approach each project in small pieces over time, so that I am not viewing it as one huge chunk of work. This will make each project much more manageable and less intimidating.
I look forward to a successful semester working with you and improving my writing skills for the professional atmosphere.
Sincerely,
Marisa Wade
